Through tapping back and forth (bilateral stimulation) we’ll keep your mind in the present while you explore your past. Sometimes (no guarantees) we can get through a memory in one session. For complex trauma, it could take a few sessions. In a nutshell, this therapy changes the emotional impact of your memories.
I will also help you show compassion to your younger selves. This is a bit woo-woo, but hell, it works SO well with EMDR. Hear me out…
We all talk about parts – “there’s a part of me wants to go and another part of me doesn’t”. Ever feel like a child who is just wanting to be compliant not to upset someone? And you, as an adult, are just like “WTF? WHY do I DO that!?” That part of you – the little kid who was told to, “Shut up, or I’ll give you something to cry about” – is very active in your mind. I’ll guide you to be the soft voice you needed to hear as a kid. I’ll teach you how to recognize when your younger parts are activated and what to do when that happens and how to get your Apparently Normal Part to come back on-board.
Most sessions are 60-minutes, or you can opt for EMDR intensives – 4 to 8-hour sessions in my office or your home, slashing through your traumatic themes one at a time. It sounds brutal, but its actually less so because you do not have to start and stop every hour like weekly sessions (and we can have snacks).
EMDR Intensives
Intensives are done on Fridays and weekends and have immediate availability – scheduling can be as soon as 2 weeks – you don’t miss work, and might just go back to work on Monday a new person! It’s important to know insurance does not cover these sessions. There is a 90-minute intake that has a fee of $190; we will decide then how many hours you’ll need and over one or two days. During your intensive you can expect to do EMDR, expressive arts, movement, meditation, and lots of healing. The cost for a 4-hour session is $665; 6-hour session is $965; 8-hour session is $1,320 (over 2 days). This may be more appealing than coming for 6-24 weeks of therapy sessions.

I-CBT will help you understand how your DOUBTS are driving your OCD. Stop the doubt, stop the compulsions and thoughts. Many of my clients have OCD they developed in addition to their trauma symptoms. Inference-based (how you get to a conclusion) cognitive behavioral therapy is heavy on the cognitive side. My clients who have participated in this therapy are reporting they are thinking more rationally about their doubts and stopping the obsessional thoughts and behaviors. There are free, yes FREE, materials at ICBT.online. The short video below explains more about I-CBT.

Art can make the brain go really deep. Tapping into the sub- and unconscious. I occasionally will give art as homework and we’ll also do this in some of our sessions. Ask about my Expressive Arts Workshops. I have seen powerful, beautiful changes using expressive arts. Below are examples of healing. The first was done in March 2022, and second was painted about a year later.

First, I’m really happy you’ve poked around this webpage. I share things. Most therapists want you to believe they’ve got it figured out. I’m like you – but with a boatload of student debt. But that’s OK. I LOVE what I do! Helping people get unfucked is fun and very fulfilling for me.
My road to get here has been a long one. I suffered for 30 years, and didn’t know I had PTSD. At age 40, I was having panic going in a busy store; panicking at work because I couldn’t focus on one sound. And when I was around 10 or so, I was pulling out my eyelashes and picking skin off my feet. WTF? After one panic attack at work, I was told about EAP and made an appointment with a wonderful psychologist, Dr. Barker – name fitted because she was also head of the Dogs on Call program at VCU Health. :)
I told her that maybe my issues were because I kept seeing this image everyday and I couldn’t shake it. Dr. Barker said, let’s try EMDR, but we only have a few visits. Over three or four visits we took care of that [one] memory. I haven’t had a panic attack since – I’m 56 now. I can go to the store without problems, no longer claustrophobic. I can focus on one sound and tune out the others. (I want to note that it may take more than a few visits to tackle your traumatic memories.)
I HAD to learn EMDR. I had an AAS degree at the time. Somehow, I call it Law of Attraction, I was EMDR trained in 2020. I’m helping people the same way I was helped.
Am I completed unfucked? Goodness no. But I know how to help you. And I want to.

Apparently Normal Self (ANS)
Currently, I am in-network with commercial insurances Aetna, Cigna, and Optum/United Healthcare, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. If you are employed with the State of Tennessee, your behavioral health insurance is managed by Optum (UHC). I am not in-network with Tenncare or Medicare.
My cash rate is $140 a session. I offer a discounted rate for college students. I also have resources I can share for alternative therapies. Please ask. It is my hope to have you scheduled at the same time each week or bi-weekly.
My ideal client is ready to do the work. Therapy IS work. It’s learning to think differently about yourself. It’s hard self-examination. But it can also be exhilarating when you start to feel the healing!

Let’s talk and get your life back. Maybe for the 1st time! Wouldn’t that be so amazing?
